HOW TO GET TO LISBON:

Being the most western capital in continental Europe, Lisbon is most easily accessible by international delegates by plane. Lisbon airport is located only 7 Km from the city center and it is easily accessible by Metro, Bus, Taxi, or Uber. There are as well private companies that organize door to door transfers that can be found online.

A one-way metro ticket costs 1,50€. More information on the Lisbon metro can be found here.

There are several Bus lines that stop at the airport Arrivals Terminal connecting it to different parts of the city. Single ride tickets can be bought on-board and cost 1,80€. Please note that the maximum baggage size allowed in regular buses is 50x40x20 cm. For larger baggage there are specific airport bus lines (Aerobus and Airport shuttle, cost of a single ride bought on-board is 4€).

A taxi ride from the airport to Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation costs approximately 13€. To guarantee a pre-fixed taxi rate you can purchase a Taxi Voucher at the “Ask Me Lisboa - Tourism Information” counter located in the Arrivals Hall.

A Uber ride from the airport to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation costs aproximately 10€.

If you are interested in renting a car several car rental companies have counters at the airport.

 


 

GETTING AROUND IN LISBON:

Lisbon is well served by public transportation, you can choose between metro, bus, tram and trains to get around. You can plan your journey here.

The conference will be held in four different locations:

  • ISPA, where the sattellite meetings will be held is located in Santa Apolónia (Rua Jardim do Tabaco 74, 1749 Lisbon) and is served by the metro station Santa Apolónia from the blue line and by the bus lines: 734; 735; 794; 728; /82; 781; 759; 712; 706
  • The Gulbenkian Institute of Science, where the welcome reception will be held, is located in Oeiras (Rua da Quinta Grande 6, 2780-156 Oeiras). It can be reached by the trains that head out towards Cascais from Cais do Sodré Train station in downtown Lisbon. You should exit the train at the Oeiras train station and then walk two blocks inland for 450 m (approx. 6 min).
  • The Gulbenkian Foundation, where the main event will be held, is located in central Lisbon (Avenida de Berna 45A, 1067 Lisbon) and can be reached by the São Sebastião Metro station served by the Red and blue lines and by buses 716; 726; 756. All recommended Conference hotels will be located within walking distance of the Gulbenkian Foundation.
  • Oceanário de Lisboa, where the mid-conference excursion will be held, is located at Doca dos Olivais, Parque das Nações (Esplanada Dom Carlos I s/nº, 1990-005 Lisbon) and is served by the metro station Estação do Oriente from the red line and by the buses lines: 705; 725; 728; 744; 708; 750; 759; 782; 794.
  • Casa do Alentejo, where the Conference banquet will be held, is located in downtown Lisbon (Rua Portas de Santo Antão, 58, 1150-268 Lisboa), and can be reached by the Restauradores Metro station served by the blue lines.

 

To move around between diferent conference locations you can use the public transport services.
